La Jollan’s enjoy our lovely beaches.
We
depend upon clean water
for our health, our recreation and our livelihoods.
California's waterways are essential. They have
irreplaceable ecology value for humans and other
species.
They are a key element
in our ecological infrastructure, providing habitat
for species, food, drinking water, agricultural and
recreational uses.
Most
people would agree that San Diego's finest resource
is its ocean.
Except that everything
that enters storm drains goes directly into the ocean!
That includes motor oil, gasoline, soap from car washes,
trash, cigarette butts, leaves and plants Runoff also
contains copper and zinc from car brake linings,
pesticides, fertilizers and a potpourri of other
pollutants.
Urban stormwater is
one of the top three sources of pollution of our
nation's rivers, lakes, oceans, and estuaries. |

You can do your part by disposing of toxic materials

Runoff is Ugly
- it’s the excess water that carries pollutants
directly into storm drains which carry water out to sea.
Runoff can contain such pollutants as motor oil,
gasoline, soap from car washes, trash, cigarette butts,
leaves and plants. Runoff also contains copper & zinc
from car brake linings, pesticides, & fertilizers.
